NPCC Chairman, Bolaji Sunmola, Represents Nigeria at ILO 2025 Summit

The Nigerian Ports Consultative Council (NPCC) proudly recognizes the participation of its Chairman, Mr. Bolaji Sunmola, at the 113th International Labour Conference organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO). The high-level summit is currently underway in Geneva, Switzerland, and runs from June 2 to June 13, 2025.

Mr. Sunmola, who also serves as the President of the National Association of Stevedoring Companies (NASC), joins a distinguished gathering of global labour leaders and policy makers at this annual forum. His presence at the summit underscores Nigeria’s continued commitment to labour reforms, international cooperation, and advancing best practices in the maritime and stevedoring sectors.

The 2025 conference addresses several pressing global labour issues, including:

• Biological Hazards at Work – Exploring new international standards for protecting workers’ health and safety.
• Decent Work in the Platform Economy – Engaging in foundational discussions on fair treatment for gig and digital platform workers.
• Innovative Approaches to Tackling Informality – Examining strategies for transitioning informal employment to formal, regulated work environments.
• Maritime Labour Conventions (MLC) – Reviewing and recommending updates to the MLC to reflect evolving maritime labour dynamics.

The conference will also assess the ILO’s contributions to the upcoming 2025 World Summit for Social Development, positioning labour as a key pillar in sustainable global development.

Mr. Sunmola’s active engagement in these dialogues reflects NPCC’s strategic focus on aligning Nigeria’s port and maritime labour standards with international benchmarks. His participation also reinforces the Council’s dedication to promoting decent work, social dialogue, and innovation within the maritime and port operations ecosystem.
