Nigerian Ports Consultative Council Inaugurates Five New Committees to Enhance Port Efficiency
Lagos, Nigeria – In a bid to foster innovation and improve the operational efficiency of Nigeria’s seaports, the Nigerian Ports Consultative Council (NPCC) has inaugurated five new Committees to deliver enhanced consultative services.
The newly constituted Committees are as follows:
- Ports Legal Committee – Chaired by Mrs. Jean Chiazor Anishere (SAN) with Mrs. Gloria Kanabe as Vice Chairperson.
- Port Operations and Logistics Committee – Chaired by Capt. Iheanacho Ebubeogu with Dr. Ikenna Nwosu as Vice Chairman.
- Finance and General Purpose Committee – Chaired by Ify Akerele with Mrs. Blessing Osakwe-Ogo as Vice Chair.
- Research, Development, Consultancy, and Training Committee – Chaired by Prof. Bamidele Badejo with Hajia Aisha Ali-Ibrahim as Vice Chairperson.
- Media/Publicity Committee – Chaired by Dr. Hope Orivri with Mr. Kenneth Jukpor as Secretary.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, NPCC Chairman, Mr. Bolaji Sunmola, urged the newly appointed committee leaders to see their roles as a patriotic call to contribute to ongoing reforms within the nation’s port sector.
“The success of the NPCC lies in our collective ability to harness the expertise, creativity, and wisdom of all committee members. Let us refocus NPCC and work with dedication to meet the great expectations of Nigeria’s marine and blue economy sector,” Sunmola stated.
Reaffirming NPCC’s commitment to advocacy, advisory, arbitration, consulting, and policy development, he emphasized the importance of the newly formed Committees in repositioning the port sector for sustainable growth. He also acknowledged the efforts of previous committees in laying a solid foundation for the future.
The NPCC Vice Chairman, Mrs. Jean Chiazor Anishere (SAN), administered the oath of office to the newly appointed committee leaders, encouraging them to be diligent and dedicated in their service. She further noted that Committee chairpersons could co-opt additional members, subject to consultation with NPCC leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated Committees, the Chairman of the Port Operations and Logistics Committee, Capt. Iheanacho Ebubeogu, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and assured the Council of the committees’ unwavering commitment to their responsibilities. He also highlighted the need for committee members to familiarize themselves with key legislative frameworks such as the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Act, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Act 2023, Coast Guard Bill, and Free Trade Zone Act, among other vital regulations guiding port operations.
